Design and Controls Weighing in at a hair over 14 pounds, the Satellit 800's sleek, modern cabinet is 20.5 inches across and eight inches deep. The sturdy cabinet has metal guards, much like a rack-mounted component. A built-in antenna on the top of the device handles AM, FM and shortwave reception. To the right of the full-range speaker on the front of the unit, a massive 6 x 3.5-inch multifunction LCD panel displays all the radio's functions and tuning parameters. The display offers up to 100 Hertz accuracy on the AM, SW and VHF aircraft bands. An evenly lit backlight enables display viewing under all lighting conditions. Great Performer With Keith Husmann shortwave shortwave receiver is very good but a little 'difficult to examine because it can be perceived differently depending on the user - in which they live, the primary use, etc. If you are only interested in AM or FM I think it's too expensive. FM reception is amazing, but it is not stereo - is mono if you connect a stereo headset. This is not particularly good for the design of signals AM - no external antenna, my GE Superadio pulled them equally (if not better). However, I bought it mainly for short-wave plate and shine compared to laptops I've used. It is designed to use the stylus provided or can be connected to an external antenna. I used the whip and I can not comment on the external antennas. Outside cocktail hour the box with the whip is the best I found and I live on shortwave challenged the American West (as opposed to the U.S. East, it is difficult to all but the most robust signalen popular in the West.) Poor signal sensitivity is excellent. The synchronous selectable side (which I did not have before and now I would not waste money on a radio without), tunable bandwidth, AGC and bass / treble, but you can clean up the signals and the large high speakers and included headphones provide a very good audio - it's so tiring to hear that little portable shortwave. (. Ditto AM) I also remember that I live in a wooden house shaped - short waves is harder to find in buildings of stone or metal. The band of air and SSB both work fine, but I have not much to listen, because my interest lies mainly in AM / FM / shortwave. However, if you're interested in traffic at airports and legs, it runs very well. The controls work very well - ergonomically correct and easy to use even with big hands and fingers, solid construction and workmanship in my unit - no hardware manual drain or loose knobs. Some drawbacks: it is a table with a laptop. (Think of two shoe boxes start to finish, filled with stones -. It is the size and weight) I do not like the "engine" transformer brick running on AC power - would have preferred to be on the radio. And not "find station" or browsing feature that even the most laptops and is particularly useful for shortwave. I'm picky customer and I have a fascination with portable high quality radios. I also own a satellite 700: e sound at 800 is a little fuller than 700: The e 800 is huge and heavy, and not really portable. The manual tuner can not beat the amplifier that is used very useful in SW. FM tuner at the stations pull me out of the market area and sounds for a radio great. Volume may be of almost the whole way without distortion of the loudspeaker is activated.
