Take one look at the Grundig Satellit 800 AM/FM shortwave radio and you'll know it means serious business. From the easy-to-read liquid crystal display and traditional analog signal strength meter, to the silky-smooth tuning knob that creates absolutely no audio muting, this radio defines shortwave at its best. Continuous frequency coverage of 100-30,000 KHz gives you broadcasts from every corner of the globe. Even listen to ham radio operators, or planes as they take off and land at your local airport. Design and Controls Weighing in at a hair over 14 pounds, the Satellit 800's sleek, modern cabinet is 20.5 inches across and eight inches deep. The sturdy cabinet has metal guards, much like a rack-mounted component. A built-in antenna on the top of the device handles AM, FM and shortwave reception. To the right of the full-range speaker on the front of the unit, a massive 6 x 3.5-inch multifunction LCD panel displays all the radio's functions and tuning parameters. The display offers up to 100 Hertz accuracy on the AM, SW and VHF aircraft bands. An evenly lit backlight enables display viewing under all lighting conditions. To the left of the screen is an analog signal strength meter that helps achieve perfect tuning accuracy. A keypad below the LCD screen allows illustrious shortwave listeners to directly enter their shortwave band of choice, giving instant access to known broadcasts. Meanwhile, a selectable automatic gain control (AGC) offers fast and slow modes. Tuning options abound; you can choose from a variable-rate tuning knob, the aforementioned direct keypad frequency entry method, up/down buttons, or programmable memory scan. And when you have your station locked in, you can tweak the sound quality with separate, continuous bass and treble tone controls. A bridged type audio amplifier provides high output power, even when the radio is operating on battery. Tuning and Bands The Satellit 800 is designed to receive a broad range of signals in the 100-30,000 KHz range, which includes shortwave, medium wave AM broadcast band and longwave. FM reception is robust, with tuning available in the 87-108 MHz ranges. VHF aircraft band reception is also supported. While you make your broadcast discoveries, you can add them to the Satellit 800's programmable memory, which features 70 frequency entries. As an added bonus, entries are immune to power loss, ensuring that your favorite tunings are never lost. For tuning precision, the unit offers selectable bandwidths (7.0, 4.0, and 2.3 kHz) for excellent selectivity. And to top it all off, the Satellit 800's high dynamic range tuner allows for detection of weak signals in the presence of strong signals. And for those who enjoy tuning into far-flung AM stations, the Satellit 800 features a single sideband synchronous AM detector. Connections and Power The Satellit 800 is packed with connectivity options, including a stereo line-level output for recording or connecting the unit to a home stereo. There's also a stereo headphone jack for private listening (high quality headphones are included with the radio). For the truly dedicated, the Satellit 800 offers vital external antenna connections. Take your pick -- professionally engineered shortwave antennae, long-wire shortwave antennae, specialized AM broadcast band antennae, FM broadcast band antennae, and air band antennae can all be connected. The unit can be powered with the included AC adapter, or via six "D" batteries. A low battery indicator is provided, as well. Extras Grundig thought of everything, so they've included dual programmable clocks. You also get a dual-event programmable timer that can be used for timing a recording or as an alarm clock. What's in the Box Satellit 800 radio, stereo headphones, AC adapter, and owner's manual.

Great Performer With Keith Husmann shortwave shortwave receiver is very good but a little 'difficult to examine because it can be perceived differently depending on the user - in which they live, the primary use, etc. If you are only interested in AM or FM I think it's too expensive. FM reception is amazing, but it is not stereo - is mono if you connect a stereo headset. This is not particularly good for the design of signals AM - no external antenna, my GE Superadio pulled them equally (if not better). However, I bought it mainly for short-wave plate and shine compared to laptops I've used. It is designed to use the stylus provided or can be connected to an external antenna. I used the whip and I can not comment on the external antennas. Outside cocktail hour the box with the whip is the best I found and I live on shortwave challenged the American West (as opposed to the U.S. East, it is difficult to all but the most robust signalen popular in the West.) Poor signal sensitivity is excellent. The synchronous selectable side (which I did not have before and now I would not waste money on a radio without), tunable bandwidth, AGC and bass / treble, but you can clean up the signals and the large high speakers and included headphones provide a very good audio - it's so tiring to hear that little portable shortwave. (. Ditto AM) I also remember that I live in a wooden house shaped - short waves is harder to find in buildings of stone or metal. The band of air and SSB both work fine, but I have not much to listen, because my interest lies mainly in AM / FM / shortwave. However, if you're interested in traffic at airports and legs, it runs very well. The controls work very well - ergonomically correct and easy to use even with big hands and fingers, solid construction and workmanship in my unit - no hardware manual drain or loose knobs. Some drawbacks: it is a table with a laptop. (Think of two shoe boxes start to finish, filled with stones -. It is the size and weight) I do not like the "engine" transformer brick running on AC power - would have preferred to be on the radio. And not "find station" or browsing feature that even the most laptops and is particularly useful for shortwave. (Must be sought in the configuration memory has memory -. 70 positions), these are relatively minor quibbles - in short, is an excellent system. One final note: I was a little hesitant to order from Amazon, because I worry that not pack well for shipping. (Previously, I had a few items arrive without proper packaging.) ) No problem - the radio Retail Box wrapped in heavy cardboard shipping box with plastic and tape, was the whole package enclosed in a second box with a lot of "air cushion" around contains everything arrived in very good condition. 103 of 110 people found the following review helpful. Grundig Satelit 800 Allen J. Feinberg When I first got this radio I'm skeptical, based on his Shakey start (the first batch of units had problems). I'm picky customer and I have a fascination with portable high quality radios. I also own a satellite 700: e sound at 800 is a little fuller than 700: The e 800 is huge and heavy, and not really portable. The manual tuner can not beat the amplifier that is used very useful in SW. FM tuner at the stations pull me out of the market area and sounds for a radio great. Volume may be of almost the whole way without distortion of the loudspeaker is activated. FM sound stacks with another radio I own, including two with a high 6 1 / 2 Panasonic's "speakersThe tuner is very easy to program and use. Stations are just a keystroke away. Although this radio is made in China, the very high build quality ..

Robert Lönn I finally took the plunge and had to find themselves in these good-looking radio. People complained SSB reception and filters. I was glad I took the decision to buy this radio as my radio has no such issues with a serial number of 1400-century! One QSO took place this morning 3872.00. I turned on my Yaesu HF rig to verify this was exactly 3872.00 LSB. To start the comparison with some other radios, I placed Eton E-1 would be to 3872.00 and met LSB and bingo, the sound was fine as you expect. Time for Sony ICF-2010. The same results when I first found the USB and audio was faint but audible, hit the right setting and LSB audio was loud and clear. OK, now 750: e on satellite Located in the 3872 radio, press USB, OFB fixed in normal position, and the audio was weak, but audible, beat the LSB and audio was loud and clear 750 acted exactly like Sony did ..... This tells me that the 750 has absolutely no problem with the reception of SSB ... Of course, the instructions are not clear about the position of the control of SSB. Came from the factory at a time. My Collins 75A-4 has an LSB position and a position of 11 for USB, the 750 acts the same way ... From 1 kHz to 750 songs, you must adjust the command of SSB, at times, but the USB and LSB circuit band-pass is great. Yes, I should have done a radio station in steps of 100 Hz when in SSB, but this is not the case. The E-1 is adjusted in steps of 10 Hz, so you do not need that. Sony tunes in steps of 100 Hz SSB so I can get close but not exactly .. For this reason, the 750 is better than the ICF-2010 ... He used the narrow filter of these tests. Well, now to the question of the range of the filter .. After playing with this for about 10 minutes on the local AM stations, and I mean to look at the S-meter, I would say that the filter has a very slight decrease on the edges really, I mean looking at 4 KHz offset. + O - 3 kHz signal just roll off, normal operation, when they arrive at 4 kHz at each end of the S-meter may rise a bit, but at 4 kHz and lose the signal and get through the filter. But + - 2 kHz S-meter is flat .. If anything is clear, I can not see it. Setting the station, reached the S-meter, setting off on both sides and counter-s will drop when they hit 5 kHz in landscape mode. I used the attenuator to keep the SM on the midrange. I'm not saying anything that is not present, but after careful consideration I see no evidence of a problem. I have sports Scott and BR show now, in 1090, XX1090 San Diego, and will consider full range of sounds ... Sounds great! OK, all this talk positive, it must be something about me, right? I'm worried about the battery cover, it seems very difficult, as the radio together. This is not a radio to slide off,,, this does not mean that the battery cover is not strong enough and pay attention. The battery cover E-1 has the same concern, but so far, after changing the battery numerous, the Eton E-1 cover is still valid. This radio is a fun to use. keyboard input is fast and flawless, can not say that the E-1. E-1 needs to have pushed the decimal, 750 ne ... I'm not in memory or capability scan mode or timer on .. This should be simple ... The follow-up Times comes out lines ... He speculated unqualified many parts of the assessment. He was concerned, was a double-conversion, not a triple conversion and may have problems with strong local signals. Here in San Diego, is not the case .... Plus with a gain RF attenuator and 3 of position, you'd never have a problem with zero damping and full RF gain and tuning around a 75K watt AM station, 690, no problem, and I managed to NULL with the antenna more than 90% of this.
